Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information ChefAIde ("ChefAIde," "we," "us") collects when you use our website and services (the "Service"), how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile information

  • Your email address and, if you sign in with a password, a securely hashed password.
  • If you sign in with Google, the basic profile information Google shares with us (such as your name, email address, and profile picture).
  • Your display name, if you choose to set one.
  • Account settings such as administrator status, access/allowlist status, and payment requirements.

Recipes and content you provide

  • Recipe URLs you import, recipe text you paste, and meal ideas or descriptions you submit.
  • The recipes we generate or extract for you, including titles, descriptions, ingredients, steps, tags, cook and prep times, servings, nutritional information, and source links.
  • Images you upload for your recipes.
  • Favorites, saved recipes, meal plans, and recently viewed recipes.
  • Cooking history, including when you mark a recipe as cooked, ingredients used, and any notes you add.

Friends and shared recipes

  • The email addresses you enter to add friends, your friend requests and friendships, and which recipes you share with which friends.

Pantry and shopping information

  • Pantry items you add, including names, categories, quantities, units, expiration dates, and notes.
  • Ingredient selections you make when building a shopping list, links to shopping lists we create for you on Instacart, and whether you confirmed a delivery.

Subscription and payment information

  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We store your Stripe customer ID, plan, subscription status, and billing period dates.
  • If you cancel, the cancellation date and any reason you choose to give us.

Technical and usage information

  • Log and diagnostic data generated when you use the Service, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, timestamps, and error details.
  • Performance and AI monitoring data, which may include the inputs you submit for recipe generation and the resulting output, used to debug and improve the Service.

2. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and secure your session. We also use your browser's local and session storage to remember preferences such as light or dark mode and to temporarily hold a recipe preview before you sign in. We use PostHog and Datadog cookies and local storage to understand how the Service is used and to diagnose errors and performance issues, such as which pages are visited and which features are used. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • To import, parse, generate, store, and display your recipes, meal plans, and pantry.
  • To create Instacart shopping lists from the ingredients you select.
  • To email you a recipe and its shopping list when you ask us to.
  • To email the people you add as friends about your friend request (or an invitation to join, if they don't have an account), and to let your friends know when you share a recipe with them.
  • To process subscriptions and payments and manage your plan.
  • To send service-related emails, such as sign-in links and account confirmations.
  • To monitor, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Service, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. How we share information

We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, as described below:

  • Supabase – authentication, database, and file storage.
  • Vercel – website hosting and storage of images you upload.
  • PostHog – product analytics. We send your account ID, email address, name, the pages you visit, and the features you use (for example, creating a recipe or starting a subscription) so we can understand and improve how the Service is used.
  • OpenAI – processing the recipe URLs, text, and meal ideas you submit to extract or generate recipes and images.
  • Instacart – when you choose to shop for ingredients, we send the recipe title, ingredient list, recipe image, and a link back to the recipe so Instacart can build your shopping list. We do not send your name or email to Instacart. Any purchase you make on Instacart is subject to Instacart's own terms and privacy policy.
  • Resend – delivering the emails we send you, such as your welcome email, recipes you ask us to email you, and friend request and shared recipe notifications. We share the recipient's email address and the email contents with Resend.
  • AI assistants you connect – if you connect an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to your account, it can read your recipes, shopping lists, and pantry, save new recipes from links you share with it, and add items to your pantry on your behalf. That information is then handled under the assistant provider's terms and privacy policy. You can disconnect it at any time in your account settings.
  • Stripe – subscription billing and payment processing. We share your email address with Stripe to create your checkout session.
  • Google – if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Datadog – application performance, AI and error monitoring, including recordings of browser sessions (pages viewed, clicks and errors) with text you type into form fields masked.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, safety, or property of ChefAIde, our users, or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

5. Visibility of your content

Recipes, pantry items, meal plans, and cooking history you create are private to your account by default. When you send someone a friend request, they see your name and email address. Your friends see your name and email address and any recipes you choose to share with them, and they can save their own copy of a shared recipe. If you share a recipe with someone who hasn't accepted your friend request yet, we hold it and deliver it only if they accept within 30 days. Removing a friend stops them from seeing recipes you shared, but copies they already saved stay in their account. Your pantry, shopping lists, and cooking history are never shared with friends. Images you upload are stored at hard-to-guess URLs but may be accessible to anyone who has the link.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Instacart shopping list links expire automatically. If you cancel a paid subscription, recipes beyond the free tier may be archived and later deleted. When you delete a recipe or your account, we delete the associated data, except where we must retain it for legal, security, billing, or fraud-prevention purposes. Backups and logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

7. Your choices and rights

  • You can view and update your name and email address from your account page.
  • You can delete your recipes, remove favorites, and manage your pantry items at any time.
  • You can cancel your subscription from your subscription page.
  • You can request a copy of your data or deletion of your account by contacting us at support@chefaide.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to certain processing. We will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and row-level access controls on our database, to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International users

The Service is operated in the United States, and your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service or by email.
